In February of 2023 the department of marketing and communications at Lane Community College was asked to design new logos for the Health Professions department. Health Professions had just reorganized, and they wanted new logos for all of their sub-departments.
I worked together with three other designers in my department to design and present multiple options for six of the sub-departments. We wanted the logo designs to complement the Lane Community College logo and the Health Professions department logo.
After the clients reviewed what we sent them and made their selections, we made any changes that had been requested, tightened up the designs, and saved them in file formats that the client (and us!) could use for projects down the road.
In the case of the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assistant departments, our initial designs were rejected. As designers, we had decided not to incorporate images of teeth into our logos; it just didn't feel very appealing. However, the department specifically requested that we use tooth images, so I designed a friendly-looking vector outline of a tooth that we were really happy with—and the client was happy with it too.
As of June 2024, we are beginning to brainstorm logos for the remaining five sub-departments.
Below are the designs that I personally created or co-created over the course of this project.
I took the lead on client communication for this project. In addition to managing email requests, I also prepared our presentations. Below is our first round of logo presentations. After the client viewed the presentation document, we took their feedback and continued crafting several of the logos.
In their enthusiastic response to the initial presentation, the client chose designs for Fitness & Lifestyle Specialist, Health Information Management, and Medical Assistant. We got to work tightening up the designs and uploaded them to our server. We later used the alternate F&L logo (the dumbbell) to rebrand the Alen Bahret Fitness Center on the Lane Community College campus.
The client requested that we try a mashup of two of the Physical Therapy Assistant designs.
The client asked us to incorporate teeth into the designs for the dental programs. I ended up taking cues from Tim's initial designs, and I'm very pleased with the logos that we came up with.
